Half Back / Half Front/Half Sleeve

Back Panel

Cast on 62 sts. Work 9 cm (3.5 inches) in ribbing for bottom band. Then switch to relief pattern. At 59 cm (23.2 inches) / 106 rows from the band, bind off the center 20 sts for the neck. Finish each shoulder separately. For neck shaping, bind off 3 sts from the inner edge on the next RS row. At 61 cm (24 inches) / 110 rows from the band, bind off the remaining 18 sts for each shoulder.

Front Panel with Cable Knit Sweater Pattern

Cast on 64 sts. Work 9 cm (3.5 inches) of bottom band as follows: edge st, 24 sts in ribbing, 14 sts in cable, 24 sts in ribbing, edge st. Next, continue: edge st; work the next 24 sts in relief pattern, and at the end of these 24 sts, make 1 knit stitch from the cross thread (M1L) to end with stitches up to arrow A (now 25 sts of relief pattern); work the next 14 sts as the cable; work the remaining sts in relief pattern, making 1 knit stitch from the cross thread (M1R) at the start to begin from arrow B (now 25 sts of relief pattern); edge st. Total: 66 sts. At 52 cm (20.5 inches) / 94 rows from the band, bind off the center 14 sts for the neck. Finish each side separately. For rounding, bind off from the inner edge every other row: 1 x 3 sts, 1 x 2 sts, and 3 x 1 st. At the same back height, bind off the remaining 18 sts for each shoulder.

Sleeves

Cast on 32 sts. Work 9 cm (3.5 inches) ribbing for the cuff, starting and ending (between edge sts) with P2. Then work relief pattern: start with edge st and stitches to arrow B, work 1 full pattern repeat, end with stitches to arrow A and edge st. Simultaneously, increase for sleeve shaping on both sides: 5 x 1 st every 12th row = 42 sts (incorporate increases into pattern). At 39 cm (15.4 inches) / 70 rows from the cuff, bind off for the sleeve cap: 3 sts on each side, then every other row: 1 x 3 sts and 6 x 2 sts. At 48 cm (18.9 inches) / 86 rows, bind off the remaining 6 sts.

Assembly

Sew shoulder seams. For the collar: with circular needles, pick up 76 sts around the neckline. Work in ribbing (alternating K2, P2) for 23 cm (9 inches). Bind off all sts loosely in pattern. Set in sleeves, then sew side seams and sleeve seams.

This cable knit sweater pattern yields a timeless, textured garment that works beautifully with jeans or tailored trousers. The combination of a deep ribbed collar and the central cable makes this pullover a rewarding project for intermediate knitters. Once finished, block your sweater gently to open up the relief stitches and showcase the beautiful twisted columns of the cable knit sweater pattern.
